A photo which I found in an old album, that my father in school uniform staring at the lens. The image of the photo, which I saw only once, has never left my mind. Roland Barthes once mentioned "noema of photography is what once was” in Camera Lucida.
The photograph I found in an old photo album spoke eloquently of the essence of that idea, but I wonder if 100 years will not be changed it. Perhaps whether or not the photograph is existed, yet rather the fact that it continues to develop a new story based on memory that makes it possible to believe in what we feel when we look at photograph.
The work "Star Boy" is a reconstruction by piecing together memories and photographs related to my father, as well as fragments of what he said before he past away and what was said by people close to him.
The first chapter of this work "The Night of the Flood," takes as its starting point that he actually saw on the night of the great flood, and is composed of episodes related to his father and his mother, in an attempt to explore the relationship between life and death, memory and story
